Home Newborn and Family Shoots in Bristol

Have beautiful photos in the comfort of your own home.

There are lots of reasons to book a home session for a newborn or family shoot. It works so well if you want those photos in the “newborn window” (the first two weeks) but aren’t quite ready to travel yet, or you just want to enjoy the comfort of your own home in the newborn bubble! It works really well if you have older siblings as well as they are somewhere familiar and have all their favourite things around them. Another joy of newborn photography at home is capturing a bit of your routine - things that might pass you by but will be so meaningful when you look back on them, as well as documenting your baby’s first home. Of course, ALL members of the family can be involved as well, especially the furry ones!

  • The ideal time for a newborn shoot is within the first 10 days. At this stage, they are still very sleepy and have that newborn scrunch (where they tend to curl themselves up). I usually recommend booking in around your 20 week scan but I know not everything goes to plan, or maybe your little one is already born. Please don’t worry! My sessions are up to 3 hours for a reason. It allows plenty of time for feeding and settling, so if they are a little bit older, we will still be able to get gorgeous photos of you as a family.

  • I DEFINITELY don’t expect your home to be picture perfect when I come - you’ve just had a baby, please relax and look after yourselves! I only need small areas to shoot in and I can move clutter around if we need. I will send plenty of advice on how to get ready once you’ve booked!

  • I will try to make the most of natural light where possible so areas around windows and where the light falls are important! Generally I love photos of you cuddled up on the sofa or a bed to get those cosy shots, and I think it’s lovely to have some photos in the nursery if it’s ready.

  • This depends a bit! I always bring a few “dressing” props with me, such as pillows and blankets. I can also bring a plain backdrop and newborn posing table as well if you would like a more studio feel. However, this does require quite a bit of floor space and won’t fit in every home so I do prefer to just use different areas around your house. The joy of a home session is having your home as a backdrop!

  • Yes. Please don’t think you need an Instagram influencer home for beautiful photos! All I need is a bit of light and a space like a bed or a sofa and we’re good to go.

  • Yes yes yes yes. Yes.
